According to him, an officer who alighted from the patrol van hit his gun on the body of the taxi and it exploded. He said the bullet hit and killed the taxi driver on the spot.

He also explained that security operatives have been moved to the scene to quell a possible escalation of the matter while investigations are on the matter.

Increased alleged extrajudicial killings nationwide call for concern as a similar case was recorded recently in Edo State. Youths and cab drivers in Benin City, the Edo state capital, on Tuesday, February 6 protested the alleged killing of a taxi driver by a police officer over his refusal to give bribe.

According to eyewitnesses, the police officer pushed the driver into an oncoming truck after he failed to give them more than N100 as bribe at a checkpoint.
