Senate To Probe Senator Omo-Agege’s Comment On Electoral Act

The Senate has directed its committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions to investigate a statement credited to Senator Ovie Omo-Agege that the amendment of Electoral Act was targeted at President Muhammadu Buhari.

Senator Dino Melaye raised a point of order saying his privilege as a Federal Lawmaker and that of the Senate was breached by the statement made by Senator Omo-Agege.

Last week Wednesday,  the Senate adopted a conference committee report on the amendment of the 2010 electoral Act.

A key amendment in the report sets a sequence for the general elections in the country.

The amendment proposed that the National Assembly election should come first and the Presidential election last.

However Lawmakers were divided over this specific amendment in the conference report and expressed this to journalists after plenary on that day.

Senator Abdullahi Adamu, as well as Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and eight other lawmakers condemned the amendment.

Senator Omo-Agege alleged that the amendment is targeting President Muhammadu Buhari and claimed that 59 Senators are against the amendment.

This statement by Senator Omo-Agege is drawing the wrath of some lawmakers in the Senate.
