The Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has said that the provision of basic infrastructure in schools is obligatory for every responsible government.

To this end, the state government has distributed desks and chairs for use by students across Primary and Secondary schools in the state.

The first phase of the distribution took place at All Souls Anglican Secondary school, in Ado, the state capital and SUBEB Model Nursery and primary school, Afao Ekiti.

Governor Fayose, who was at the two venues reechoed his administration’s determination to develop the education sector and provide infrastructure.

according to him, it is the responsibility of government to ensure students are trained under conducive atmosphere adding that the custodians of the facilities are also expected to have maintenance culture.

“It is of no use to come here and be commissioning desks and chairs, therefore I will not cut any tape here today. It is the responsibility of government to do this for our students and pupils, and we will continue to do our best within available resources ”

The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Ekiti State Chapter, lauded the state government’s action as impressive and supportive of schools’ learning process.

In the first phase, one thousand units of school chairs and lockers would be distributed to public secondary schools while 684 units of plastic chairs and tables are procured for primary schools.
