The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has assured Nigerians that it will do all it can to ensure that the electoral processes in the country will continue to be free and fair.

Chairman of the Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, said this on Thursday while discussing how to achieve better government with the use of technology at the Social Media Week.

“Take it from the commissioner that nothing but votes will count and as you can see in some of the recent elections we’ve conducted, nothing but votes actually determined the outcomes of the elections, so votes will continue to count, INEC is not for or against anybody” he said.

Speaking further, the INEC boss challenged Nigerians to take part in the electoral process by first of all, taking advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise as Nigeria moves into its election period.

He noted that currently, there are 108 registered political parties.

Yakubu also added that the Commission has laid out plans for the next 34 years on how to curb voter fraud because according to him, proper planning will reduce the occurrence of such incidents.
