The crisis in the Kogi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) appears to be worsening as the national leadership of the party calls for calm among members.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi on Saturday, the party noted that no organ of the APC can expel any member except the convention.

The party also stated that its decision on the state’s leadership remains unchanged, affirming the committee head by Mr Haddy Ametuo.
“Neither state nor zonal executives constituted in whatever name or form can expel anyone from the party; only convention can do so.
“We restate that the State Working Committee of APC in Kogi State led by the Chairman, Haddy Ametuo, remains the only recognised executive committee of the party in the state,” the APC said.
It, however, urged aggrieved members in the state to refer any disciplinary action being contemplated to the APC National Working Committee (NWC), saying it is the position of the constitution.
The ruling party further asked members at all levels to desist from taking unilateral actions that are likely to further jeopardise the ongoing peace process.
As the 2019 general elections draw nearer, President Muhammadu Buhari had appointed one of the party leaders Bola Tinubu on February 6 to resolve disagreements among APC members, party leadership and political office holders in the country.
The APC Governors’ Forum had also commended the appointment, saying it was a welcome development that would help to strengthen the party.
Tinubu had, however, accused the National Chairman of the party John Oyegun of sabotaging his reconciliation assignment and seeking to undermine his mandate by engaging in dilatory tactics.
President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Yakubu Dogara, were copied on the letter containing Tinubu’s allegations.
