The Presidential Committee on Victims Support has started the preliminary assessment of destroyed public infrastructure in the ongoing herdsmen attacks on Benue communities to rebuild them for the timely resettlement of internally displaced persons.

The Executive Director of the Fund, Mr. Sunday Ochoche, disclosed the state governor Governor Samuel Ortom in Makurdi when he visited the crisis to evaluate what schools and hospitals require immediate reconstruction.

He noted that the sustained attacks on the communities since 2011 has attracted the attention of the VSF to help rebuild critical public infrastructures.

The governor while responding to the issues of insecurity in the state say, over 85 persons have been killed after the burial of 73 victims hacked to death by suspected herdsmen, leaving 170, 000 IDPs in eight camps across the state.

Also at the meeting was the Southern Nigerian Youth wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria, who commended governor Ortom for ensuring that the lives of Nigerians count, even if other leaders feel otherwise.

On the part of the police, the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, noted that the police has made some arrest in relation to the Omusu attacks and confirm that 25 persons were killed.
