DPR Seals Erring Fuel Stations In Kaduna
As long queues experienced at filling stations across the country gradually disappear, some independent petroleum marketers in Kaduna state have devised a new strategy of diverting the products to semi-urban areas and rural communities where they sell them above the official pump price of N145 per litre.
During a routine inspection of filling stations in Kachia and Kafanchan areas in the southern part of the state by officials of Department of Petroleum Resources, over ten petrol stations were caught and sealed by the agency for various offences ranging from hoarding, diversion, selling above pump price and under dispensing of products to the public.
Although normalcy is gradually returning at many filling stations in Kaduna state capital due to increased supply of PMS by NNPC, residents in Kachia and Kafanchan areas are still lamenting over the hike in the price of petrol by marketers.
The residents say the only way to checkmate the activities of marketers and ensure price compliance is to deploy security operatives to filling stations as well as ensuring that the refineries are brought back to life.
Other filling stations in the area were also sealed by DPR officials similar offence, while products inside the storage tanks were later sold at 145 per litre to the residents.
The Head of Operations, DPR zonal office, Ibrahim Ciroma, regrets that in spite of the numerous warnings and sanctions, marketers are adamant to frustrate the system.
