Security consultant Mr Don Okereke has joined voices with some Nigerians and groups asking the Federal Government to label ‘killer herdsmen’ as terrorists.

Okereke who appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s News At 10, Sunday, described the move as a step in the right direction if the Buhari administration responds to the calls.

His comments come days after Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka asked the President to take a firm stance on the herdsmen who have been responsible for wanton killings in parts of the country.

Since the beginning of the year, many families have been thrown into mourning because of the attacks.

States such as Rivers, Ekiti, Plateau, Nasarawa and Benue have been the most hit, with the latter, witnessing the highest number of deaths.

With many saying nothing else better describes the act than ‘terrorism’, Okereke has also challenged the Federal Government to take a firm stance on the matter.

Speaking further, he faulted the government’s handling of the security challenges saying its disposition has given leeway for criminal activities.

“Nigeria is not that serious about security. We are more reactive than proactive. The body language of the government gives room for these people to continue doing what they are doing.

“It will be a step in the right direction if they are labelled a terrorist organisation because if you look at what they are doing, the systemic attacks in parts of the country from Benue to Taraba, are marks of terrorism,” he stated.
