Nigerians on Sunday took to social media to voice mixed reactions to the allegation of a former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Theophilus Danjuma (retd).
General Danjuma had accused the Nigerian Armed Forces of complicity in the killings in Taraba, Benue and other “riverine states” in the country.
He spoke on Saturday at the Taraba State University convocation in Jalingo, the state capital and claimed that the military was not neutral but was covering those behind the attacks which has claimed scores of lives this year alone.
The Nigerian Army in swift reaction rejected General TY Danjuma’s accusation explaining that the Nigerian Army has been living up to its constitutional responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of Nigeria.
In reaction to this, many Nigerians took to Twitter to voice their opinion, leading to the trend #TY Danjuma.
Some Nigerians were of the view that TY Danjuma’s allegations should not be handled with kids’ glove as he is a retired Army General and there appears to be a problem somewhere. While others express over the allegations raised others saw the issue from a humorous angle.
Others, including Senator Ben Murry-Bruce seized the trend to call on government to take action.
TY Danjuma is not a man who’s reckless with words. He’s a retired Army General, Chief of Army staff and fmr Defence minister. Take his words with all seriousness.

Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff and Minister of Defence, TY Danjuma, has passed a vote of no confidence on the Nigerian Military. He accused them of collusion in many killings across the country.
There is a problem.

The @HQNigerianArmy has advised the people of Taraba to be law-abiding and not listen to TY Danjuma’s call of SHAME but if they do, they will have themselves to blame. pic.twitter.com/yQxSJpLog6

Since yday ive been checking the location of those supporting the reckless comments by TY Danjuma & u know what? Majority of them are not in Taraba. Which is y its easier for them to support this barbaric statement cos when the killings continue on both sides, it wont reach them

When TY Danjuma, one of the MAJOR shareholders of Nigeria is fed up, how do you expect the rest of the citizens to feel?
— Dr. Dipo (@OgbeniDipo) March 24, 2018
Major Shareholders of Nigeria PlC that have criticised Buhari:
OBJ has called Buhari a weak ruler.
IBB has condemned Buhari.
TY Danjuma has called Buhari mediocre.
Abdulsalam Abubakar, make your move sir.

Can anyone accuse TY Danjuma of not being a patriot? How many Nigerians have done for Nigeria what TY has done for this nation? Few. Very few. When he talks like this, we should know that it has gotten to a very bad state. I call on the government to heed his call.
