A former member of the Federal House of Representatives, Mr West Idahosa, has faulted the Federal Government’s list of alleged looters.

Idahosa also advised the President Muhammadbu Buhari administration to take the corruption war seriously as it is a monster that needs to be dealt with.

“I would have expected that in good conscience that list should have at least shown a couple of people outside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he said while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s News At Ten on Friday.

Idahosa, who represented the Ovia Federal Constituency of the state in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011, spoke about the corruption war hours after the Minister of Information, Mr Lai Mohammed, released the list of those the government alleged looted the nation’s treasury.

The list, released at a news briefing in Lagos, contained the names of six PDP politicians topped by that of the party’s National Chairman.

Although the minister described it as “a tip of the iceberg”, Idahosa faulted it for failing to reflect the names of All Progressives Congress members who served in previous PDP administrations as well as former military personnel standing trial for corruption and financial crime.

“There are people who are in the military who are standing trial in this country who have volunteered some amount of money back in the coffers of the government,” he said.

“There are others who are civil servants, there are many others who were appointees in public office and there are some who are in the All Progressives Congress (APC) who were also in the PDP’s government, none of those appeared on the list.

“Your teaser cannot be largely pointed in one direction. It must be taken very seriously and that is why I said that government must get it right and approach corruption in a manner that is very serious.”

Idahosa said it was important for the government to be fair “so that all and sundry will understand that this government means business and everyone will learn to understand that corruption is a monster and once you are on its way, you are definitely going to be an enemy of the government.”
