Governor of Rivers State, Mr Nyesom Wike, has denied endorsing candidates in the forthcoming local government elections in the state.

The governor stated this on Sunday when he received Opobo Nkoro people at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

“If anybody tells you that I am interested in any person, tell the person it is a lie,” he said while reacting to reports of allegedly backing candidates ahead of the council polls in June.

Mr Wike further stated that in his experience in public service, the key to success was identifying with the people.

He added, “I have found out that one of the problems about local administration is that when you do not allow the people to be involved, then there is always a disconnect.

“So anybody that said they say, today I am saying it. Don’t listen to them again. I want a free and fair election.”

The State Chief Executive is optimistic that the local council polls would be conducted in a free and transparent manner.
