The Senate has summoned Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, (IGP) to appear before plenary on Thursday.

The IGP is to brief the lawmakers on the arrest of the Senator representing the Kogi West Senatorial District, Senator Dino Melaye.

This comes after the Senator was held in detention on Monday by immigration officials at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport preventing him from travelling to Morocco.

He was on Tuesday arrested by men of the IGP’s monitoring team and was being conveyed to Lokoja when he reportedly jumped out of the moving police vehicle.

The lawmaker has since been rushed to Zankli hospital in Mabushi district of Abuja and later transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment.

The lawmakers are concerned with the series of killings in the country.

This follows the recent killing of 19 worshippers including two priests in a Catholic church in the Gwer East Area of Benue state, north-central Nigeria.
