Adamawa Twin Blast: Senate Calls For Increased Security

The Senate has condemned the May 2, blast which claimed the lives of 27 persons in two separate suicide bomb attacks in Mubi, Adamawa State.

The Lawmakers have called on security agencies to beef up secure the area and the state as a whole.

The first bomb attack occurred inside a mosque while the second was detonated at a second-hand clothing market about 200 metres from the scene of the first blast.

56 other people sustained various degrees of injuries in the attack.

A lawmaker, Binta Masi Garba, during plenary on Wednesday presented the motion and called for an immediate action by the Federal Government to prevent a recurrence.

The motion was backed by Senator Gbenga Ashafa and Senator Mao Ohuabunwa.

The lawmakers while condemning the ‘dastardly act’ observed a minute silence for those that were killed during the attack.

They asked the Security Agencies especially the Army, Airforce, Police, DSS and Immigration to beef up security in Mubi and the entire Adamawa.

They have also asked the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and Presidential Committee on North East Initiative (PCNI) to as a matter of urgency provide relief materials to the affected communities as Directed by the Vice President.

Furthermore, the lawmakers urged the National Orientation Agency, Traditional Councils, Local Government Councils to intensify enlightenment campaign and synergy between the security Agencies/traditional institution in ensuring adequate security in the Senatorial Zone.

Also, Direct Committees on Army, National Emergency and Disaster Preparedness and Internally Displaced Persons, Refugees and Initiatives on North East to monitor implementation of the resolutions.
