United States President, Donald Trump welcomed North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s release of three American citizens Wednesday as a “positive gesture of goodwill,” the White House said.
“The three Americans appear to be in good condition and were all able to walk on the plane without assistance,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement.
“All Americans look forward to welcoming them home and to seeing them reunited with their loved ones.”
Kim Dong-chul, Kim Sang-duk and Kim Hak-song were turned over to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who flew to Pyongyang amid preparations for an upcoming summit between Trump and Kim.
“President Trump appreciates leader Kim Jong Un’s action to release these American citizens, and views this as a positive gesture of goodwill,” Sanders said.
