The Anambra State head of Service, Mr Harry Uduh, has warned any civil servant who fails to be at his or her location of civil service engagement will be punished according to the public service rules.

This is coming on the heels of the Sit-at-home Order by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, to mark the 51st anniversary of the Declaration of Biafra and to remember the Biafra heroes that died in the 1967 to 1970 Nigeria-Biafra civil war in the country.

In major cities of Awka, Onitsha and Nnewi, the IPOB order is marred by low compliance as the state government has made it clear both on print and electronic media that there is no other public holiday to be observed in the state except that of May 29 Democracy Day.

At the State Secretariat, there was a low turnout of workers which brought displeasure to the Civil Servant boss.

He noted that it is only May 29, Democracy Day that will be observed as a public holiday and therefore stated that failure to adhere to such directive will attract consequences.

Several shops were seen to be closed, vehicular movement not heavy and major roads seem deserted.

Few people were seen on roadsides, while those in commercial motorcycle business were in clusters observing the situation. Some of the people who reacted admit fair compliance to the order.

In Nnewi, the hometown of the Biafra Warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, there is very low compliance as some of the streets are busy but major markets are not fully functional.

The Secretary of the Nnewi Branch of the Nigeria Bar Association, Mr Kingsley Awuka, frowned at the order and says the federal and state government must look into it to ensure that two parallel governments are not run in the country.
