A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator Ayo Arise, has insisted that it was a hoodlum trying to hijack the gun of a policeman that led to the recent shooting during the campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Kayode Fayemi.

Senator Arise explained that before the incident occurred the APC candidate Kayode Fayemi, his wife, Ondo state governor and Mr Opeyemi Bamidele were all beside him of him during the campaign when they heard the sound of the gunshot.

“We were all together when suddenly we heard the sound of the gunshot, I saw someone fall but I couldn’t look back, all of a sudden we saw one of the hoodlums struggling with one of the policemen who probably did not put his gun into safety”.

The Senator further explained that after the incident the victim Mr Opeyemi was immediately rushed to a private clinic, adding that they were still with him until the early hours of that morning.

However, APC chairman in the state, Mr Jide Awe, during an interview claimed that the shooting was aimed at Fayemi, although Bamidele accidentally fell victim of the shot.

“When he shot at the crowd, I believe sincerely that he (the police) aimed at Dr Kayode Fayemi but narrowly, he (Fayemi) was pushed by somebody walking behind him,” Mr Awe revealed during a telephone interview on Politics Today.

“Opeyemi Bamidele was equally very near him and the shot hit him. But I can say authoritatively that he’s not badly hit, and he is recovering as we are talking,” he added.
