The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris has sent a team of investigators to Minna, Niger State after a jailbreak occurred in Minna Maximum prisons.

The Sunday night attack by gunmen on the prisons led to the death of two persons – a prison official and a commercial motorcyclist.

The investigators were led to Minna by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Taiwo Lakanu.

They were received by the Niger State Commissioner of Police and who led them to the Minna Maximum Prisons for an assessment of the level of damage by the gunmen.

The Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau during a visit to the prison on Monday confirmed that 210 inmates escaped.

Over 35 inmates have since been rearrested.

The Assistant Inspector General is, however, optimistic that more arrests will be made soon.
