Troops have killed 23 suspected members of the Boko Haram terrorist group and injured several others, the Nigerian Army said.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the Army Headquarters revealed that the feat was recorded by troops of 153 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with members of the Cameroonian Defence Forces.
The soldiers encountered the insurgents on Monday during a clearance operation in villages in the Lake Chad region.
They also recovered several items from the suspected terrorists, including six AK-47 rifles, two FN rifles, and two motorcycles.
Also recovered from the outlawed group are eight AK-47 rifle magazines, 33 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition, and one link of 7.62mm NATO.
The Army revealed that the soldiers had earlier cleared numerous villages such as Bulakeisa, Tumbuma Babba, Abbaganaram and Dan Baure, among others in the Lake Chad region.
Meanwhile, the Army authorities have asked troops of Operation Lafiya Dole to be committed and steadfast during the final onslaught against the Boko Haram terrorists.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General Stevenson Olabanji, gave the advice while addressing troops at Gubio and Damasak respectively in Borno State, north-east Nigeria.
23 of the terrorists were neutralized and several others wounded during the encounter. Items recovered include:
Six AK 47 rifles.
Two FN rifles.
Eight AK 47 rifle magazines.
33 rounds of 7.62 mm NATO ammunition
One link of 7.62mm NATO.
