Man Bags 15 Years In Prison For N5.2m Fraud

The case between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema has been adjourned to October 15 and 16, 2018.

The case which was adjourned by the Katsina State High Court which was presided over Justice Mai Kaita Bako is in respect of the prosecution’s application that their next witness is sick and has been sent abroad for treatment.

Lead counsel to the defendant, Mr. Jospeh Daudu who spoke after the sitting which lasted for about 4hours 45 minutes described today’s sitting as successful and fairly satisfied with the outcome.

Meanwhile, the lead counsel for the prosecution, Mr. Sam Ologun Orisa (SAN), stated that the ruling was delivered by the court in respect of a document seeking to tender the last adjourned date which was objected to.

He says the objection was overruled and the document was admitted, thereafter the witness was cross-examined.

The former Katsina governor and three others are being arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before Justice Mai Kaita Bako of the state High Court for allegedly defrauding the state of N11 billion from the joint account during his eight years as governor of the state.

He is also being accused on a 26 count charge of money laundering involving the sum of N 5.7 billion diversions of the Katsina Subsidy Re-Investment and Empowerment Programme, SURE-P fund.
