‘I Need A Right To Life’, Fayose Demands After Ekiti Election

Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose has demanded that his life and that of his family be secured, saying there is no single policeman protecting him.

The governor, who made his first public appearance on Tuesday since Ekiti held its governorship election, lamented that he and his family are not safe.

“If we have been robbed, we must still have a right to life. I need a right to life, my family needs a right to life,” he said after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the poll conducted on Saturday last week.

Governor Fayose made the allegations when he visited the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, at his palace in the state capital.

He condemned the situation where the man “that contested against me” is allegedly protected by at least two units of policemen while the incumbent governor has no single policeman to protect him.

The governor claimed the police officers deployed in the Government House had been withdrawn since Wednesday last week and called for the intervention of concerned individuals and groups in the matter.

“In the Government House, all the entrances were blocked since last Friday till this morning (Tuesday). I don’t understand why it should be like this,” he wondered.

The allegations come one day after Fayose faulted the outcome of the election and accused President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC of using security operatives to win the poll.

The Independent National Electoral Commission had returned the governor’s predecessor and former minister, Dr Kayode Fayemi, elected after defeating Fayose’s deputy, Professor Kolapo Olusola, and over 30 others in a keenly contested election.

According to the results announced on Sunday, Fayemi polled the highest vote of 197,459 to beat his closest rival Olusola who scored 178,121 votes.

While the national leadership of the APC and PDP have disagreed over the election results, Governor Fayose noted that the victory of the APC was irrelevant as the PDP would reclaim their mandate in court.
