Soldiers Arrest Robbery Suspects In Kogi

File

Troops have arrested a gang of suspected armed robbers from Benue State caught in military uniform in Kogi State.

The suspects were paraded by the spokesperson for the Command Army Record (CAR), Lokoja, Captain Nick Ejeh, at the Government House in the Kogi State capital.

Captain Ejeh told reporters and the state governor, Mr Yahaya Bello, while parading the suspects on Saturday evening that they were apprehended along Felele axis in the state.

He added that on sighting the military patrol team, the suspects engaged the soldiers in a gunfight after which they were overpowered and arrested.

Governor Bello, on his part, noted that his administration would continue to ensure that crime was reduced to the barest minimum in the state.

He warned criminal elements, including armed robbers and kidnappers terrorising Kogi to relocate from the state or face the full wrath of the law.

The governor stressed that his administration has done a lot to curb criminal activities since its inception and would not condone any act of criminality in the state.

He emphasised the need for the public to provide the security agencies with information and called on other state governors to take the security of life and property of the people very seriously.

The self-confessed leader of the gang, Joseph Musa, told reporters how he and his members operate and how they purportedly work as political thugs for some politicians in Benue.

Items recovered from the suspects include pump action guns, AK-47 rifles, several rounds of live ammunition, as well as some mobile phones and money, among others.

Similarly, the police paraded two suspected kidnappers whom they said had been on their wanted list for perpetrating several kidnaps in the state.
