Cross River Govt Confirms Death Of Eight Cameroonian Refugees

The Cross River State Government has confirmed the death of eight Cameroonian migrants seeking refuge at Ikom Local Government Area of the state.

The DG of the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, confirmed this to Channels Television on Thursday.

She described the deaths which occurred on Saturday, July 28, as indeed a shock to the state government

Dismissing speculations that the refugees died as a result of food poisoning, the DG said it could have been as a result of inhaled carbon monoxide from a generator which was found in their living room.

The state, however, condoled with the family of the deceased, adding that an autopsy is being carried out to confirm the actual cause of their deaths.

Meanwhile, one of the refugees who pleaded anonymity lamented that the camp has been congested causing an unhealthy atmosphere for them.

He, therefore, pleaded with the Government of Cameroon and the United Nations to wade into the ongoing crises in their country and bring an end to the mass killing in order for them to return home.
