Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State and his Taraba State counterpart, Darius Ishaku, have called on Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of peace and patriotism as they join the rest of the Muslim faithful to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

Both governors spoke about the special occasion in separate statements on Tuesday, wishing the citizens a hitch-free Sallah celebration.

Governor Ortom called on people in Benue to rise above divisive, unedifying and selfish interests as the political season is now underway, a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, said.

He also called on the people to support security agencies to ensure peace, saying, “Benue has faced a number of obstacles in the areas of security and economy, and what the state needs at this time is a renewed commitment among its people to overcome the challenges.”

On his part, Governor Ishaku reminded residents of the state of the need for them to continue to work very hard for peace in the state.

Speaking through his media aide, Bala Abu, the governor said the only way peace can be maintained in the state is when the “people remain united against those agents of destabilisation who are bent on causing a breakdown of law and order in their communities.”

While urging all indigenes and non-indigenes of the state to support the administration, the governor promised to do more terms of service delivery and in support of the welfare of the people.

Both leaders, however, reiterated their commitment to serving the people of the state better as the 2019 general elections approach.
