Eleven Killed In Niger Road Accident

 

Eleven persons have been confirmed dead in a road crash along the Yuhuri-Kontagora area of Niger State.

The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kontagora, Mr Abdullahi Umar, confirmed this to Channels Television on Wednesday.

He said 16 persons were also injured in the accident which took place in the late hours of Monday in Kontagora Local Government Area of the state.

According to him, the incident occurred when a Toyota car collided with a commercial bus.

Mr Umar blamed the accident on overspeeding and wrongful overtaking.

He said the injured victims were promptly rush to Kontagora General Hospital for medical attention.

The victims were said to be travelling from Kontagora to Yauri in Kebbi State for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The accident occurred despite several calls by safety officials that motorists should always drive with caution, especially during the festival periods.
