Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday called on old and returning members of the Peoples Democratic Party to unite and work for the party’s victory in 2019.

Saraki made the call while addressing members of the party in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

“I implore everyone to work together for the progress of the party (PDP) as there will be no discrimination against new, old, or returning members,” he said.

“Go back to your wards to ensure that new members are admitted as I strongly believe that PDP will win in the state and the national level as well.”

The Senate President, who returned to the PDP from the APC on July 31, 2018, assured all members of the party in the state that they had an equal stake and that he had no anointed candidate.

He said, “We are here to unite all of us under the party that we belong to today. There will be equity, there will be internal democracy, there will be justice.

“We will ensure that we work as one party; because we have worked together before. We’ll work hard together, we’ll see that in all the wards and local governments we ensure that popular candidates emerge, and candidates emerge based on their popularity.

“We will ensure that there is no faction; there is one PDP. We will ensure meetings in the wards and local governments will be in one venue and we will all work together for the interest of the party.

“I want to assure you all that as far as I am concerned, individually, everybody is part of one family.”

The Senate President said those who left the PDP because of returning members had the wrong assumption that the returnees were coming to hijack the party. The reality, he said, is that the PDP is large enough to accommodate all of them.
