Imo Holds First LG Polls In Seven Years

Imo State on Saturday, August 25, held its first Local Government elections in seven years with 14 political parties vying for the 27 local government chairmanship positions and 645 councillorship positions at the polls.

Chairman of the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC), Mr Ethelbert Ebebuchi, told journalists on Thursday that the commission was ready and fully equipped to conduct the elections, adding that it will do everything possible to ensure that the exercise was free and fair.

Ebebuchi also said the electoral body had trained no fewer than 8,000 ad-hoc staff for the elections.

In order to further ensure a hitch-free exercise, ISIEC announced that there will be a restriction of movement between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.
