Three members of the Osun State House of Assembly have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Action Democratic Party (ADP).
The lawmakers are Debo Akanbi, Tajudeen Famuyide, and Abdullahi Ibrahim who represent Ede North, Ilesha West, and Iwo Local Government state constituencies.
The defectors were received on Saturday by the ADP Chairman in Osun, Mr Koye Akinola, at the party’s secretariat along Ikirun Road in Osogbo, the state capital.
In his remark, Mr Akinola commended the lawmakers, saying their defection was a demonstration of true democracy.
Akanbi, who addressed party supporters at the gathering on behalf of his colleagues, explained that the move was based on their displeasure with some happenings in the APC.
“We know the foundation of the APC in the state and we agreed with Governor Rauf Aregbesola to spend eight years in power, not when he is leaving he will anoint a candidate,” he claimed.
The lawmaker added, “We have kicked against nepotism in the party and many more supporters of APC are still coming to ensure Moshood Adeoti wins the election, come September 22.”
The defection came one week after the lawmaker representing Ila Local Government Area state constituency, Clement Akanni, dumped the ruling party for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
