Four aspirants in the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State have failed to show up for the rescheduled exercise without giving any official reason for their absence.

Also, four other aspirants withdrew from the race, leaving only two aspirants – House of Representatives member Rasak Atunwa and a serving Senator Muhammad Shaba-Lafiagi – to slug it out.

Those who withdrew from the race are Ladi Hassan, Saka Ishau, House of Representatives member Zakari Muhamamd and the Speaker of the House of Assembly Ahmad Ali who withdrew from the race on Sunday.

The former Publicity Secretary of the APC, Bolaji Abdullahi and a member of the House of Representatives, Aliyu Ahman-Pategi, were among those absent.

A former Minister of National Planning, Professors Abubakar Suleiman, and Muhammad Ajia are the other two aspirants who were absent.

The PDP primary in Kwara had been suspended on Sunday and rescheduled for today after suspected thugs disrupted the exercise.

As a result of the incident, security was tighter when the exercise commenced today with delegates being allowed into the venue of the exercise to vote on a local government basis.
