The Senate has approved a sum of N242,245,050,100 billion for the funding of the 2019 general elections.

The approved sum is about N200,272,500 million less than the N242,445,322,600 requested by President Muhammadu Buhari.

INEC will now get N189 billion in addition to its 45.5 billion in the 2018 appropriation, while the security agencies (ONSA, DSS, NSCDC, NPF and NIS) will get N53.2 billion in addition to their various appropriations in the 2018 budget.

The Senate maintains that the source of funding should be from the recurrent and capital components of the special intervention programme captured in the Service Wide Votes of the 2018 Appropriation Act.
