The former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for cordoning off his Abuja residence, in the nation’s capital.
Fayose had promised to appear at the anti-graft agency to answer questions after handing over to the governor-elect Kayode Fayemi.
“I’m here in line with my promise that I will be here (EFCC’s office) on October 16, 2018.
“I told them to wait for my arrival but this morning they have been to my house, they cordoned off my street which I feel personally is unnecessary and unwarranted.
“When a man says he is coming, Nigerians should give him a benefit of the doubt”, Fayose said.
He said that he left Ekiti State to appear before the EFCC to answer questions appropriately.
In a statement issued on September 12, he explained that several actions by the anti-graft agency, including the freezing of his account and an attempt to secure a temporary forfeiture of his property, indicated that there was a need to answer some questions.
The former governor arrived in the company of his supporters and members of his the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) such as the Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike as well as his legal team led by Mr Mike Ozhekome.
Governor Wike said he accompanied him to ensure that he was not harassed.
