The Zamfara State Police Command has rescued two persons who were kidnapped in Dansadau district of Maru Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, who were said to have been kidnapped on October 24, were rescued on October 30 after joint efforts by the Police and other security agencies.

Although it is not clear whether a ransom was paid for their release, the Spokesperson of the command, SP Muhammad Shehu, told Channels Television that the victims have reunited with their families.

He said, “On 24th October 2018 at about 08:35hrs, unknown suspected kidnappers went to Mashayar Zaki in Dansadau District of Maru Lga and abducted Shehu Dangwani and Lawali Kotorkoshi both male of Bungudu LGA.

“Based on the report, DPO Maru quickly responded and led a combined team of policemen and other security agencies who embarked on search and rescue operation. As a result of the sustained effort, on 30th October 2018 at about 17:30hrs, the two victims were rescued hale and hearty.”

Meanwhile, in Gusau, the state capital, a joint team of security operatives on Monday foiled a cattle rustling attack in a nearby village of Gungulawa.

According to the Police, although no arrest was made, no life was lost and the stolen cows have been recovered and handed over to the rightful owners.

“On 31st October 2018 at about 22:30hrs, unidentified armed men suspected to be cattle rustlers invaded Dungulawa village in Mada district of Gusau LGA, rustling an unspecified number of cattle.

“On receipt of the report, tactical teams of PMF/CTU and ‘F’SARS stationed at neighbouring Wonaka, promptly engaged the bandits to an extensive gun battle which forced the hoodlums to abandon the rustled cattle and retreat to the forest with possible bullet wounds.

“The entire axis has been subjected to coordinated bush combing to effect the arrest of the fleeing hoodlums,” the police said.

The command also disclosed that a team of search and rescue has been dispatched to rescue a set of twin girls who were abducted two weeks ago.
