Okorie explained that the party took the decision to endorse the President who is the flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because of the anti-corruption stand of the Federal Government.

He added that the UPP was supporting the second term bid of President Buhari for the sake of national stability, cohesion, and unity.

According to him, the party is satisfied with the several gains made by the President, especially in the area of Treasury Single Account and other economic policies aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians.

The UPP chairman stressed that the party made, “A painstaking evaluation of all the options and in consideration of the sincerity, uprightness, and the credibility of President Muhammadu Buhari which has brought to bear in his approach to governance for the last three and a half years.”

He said, “Our resolution to adopt President Muhammadu Buhari as our candidate has been made easy for us by the leading opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who elected former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as their presidential candidate for the 2019 presidential election.”
