Fire Razes Shops In Akure

Fire has destroyed about 10 shops located close to the palace of the traditional ruler of Akure in Ondo State.

An eyewitness told Channels Television that the inferno started at about 5:00am on Thursday.

The incident was said to have occurred after a spark from electric cables in one of the affected shops.

Goods worth hundreds of thousands of naira were believed to have been destroyed by the inferno.

Some of them include assorted wines, consumables, porcelain plates, as well as food items.

One of the victims, Ayogu Tobechukwu, said he got to his shop in the morning as usual but was surprised to find out that everything in the shop has been burnt.

Ayogu who sells provisions appealed to the government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to his aid, lamenting that he just stocked his shop with goods bought on credit.
