Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Senate President, Bukola Saraki, have paid a condolence visit to the family of the late former President of Nigeria, Shehu Shagari in Sokoto State.

The visit comes three days after Shagari died at the National Hospital Abuja, the nation’s capital after a brief illness.

Obasanjo, who had earlier described the former leader as a man of honour and an achiever, sympathised with the Shagari family as well as the government and people of the state.

Speaking at the Shagari residence, Obasanjo described the man to whom he handed over in 1979, as a leader who took decisions objectively in the best interests of the country.

According to him, Nigeria and indeed Africa have lost a leader who can never be replaced.

Prominent leaders that also visited the family include Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and former Vice President Namadi Sambo.
