Gunmen suspected to be political opponents of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) on Wednesday disrupted the party’s campaign train in Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The gunmen during the attack shot into the air and disrupted the ward to ward campaign of the political party.
APM governorship candidate, Adekunle Akinlade, and his team were on their ward to ward campaign when gunshots were heard at a location near the ward they were visiting.

This led to tension and panic among party supporters and passersby who scampered to safety.
The situation was, however, brought under control after the police and other security operatives intervened.
The APM candidate later addressed the few supporters left at the venue promising to make a return to Ikenne Local Government.
Akinlade in his address said the perpetrators of the attack have nothing to offer and that is why they are resorting to violence. He urged his supporters to be law abiding and not make any attempt to retaliate. He added that his party is resolute and will not be intimidated.
Ikenne is the hometown of Oladipupo Adebutu whose candidature is still in contention in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Dapo Abiodun.
