The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has condemned the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, by the Federal Government.

Chairman of PFN in the South East, Cosmas Ilechukwu, faulted the action of the government while addressing reporters on Saturday at the end of a National Action and Pastoral Committee meeting in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

He claimed that the haste with which the petition and arraignment of the CJN were being done appeared to have a political undertone.

Ilechukwu added that the action of the government was capable of intimidating the judiciary which has been playing a crucial role in safeguarding the nation’s fragile democracy.

He, however, urged the government to allow peace to reign in the interest of Nigerians and ensure that the general elections were not allowed to be truncated.

The clergyman also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security operatives to discharge their duties honourably without compromise.

He called on all Christians across the country not to be indifferent towards the elections but exercise their civic responsibility and choose the best candidate to lead the country.
