The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has been vindicated by the recent statement made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the state of the nation.

PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, stated this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

“As far as we are concerned, President Olusegun Obasanjo’s statement last night has come to vindicate the position of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and it is obvious to every Nigerian that President Muhammadu Buhari as a person does not have the intent of running this election,” he said.

Ologbondiyan’s statement comes 24 hours after former President Obasanjo criticised the current administration again over some recent developments in the nation.

Obasanjo among other things accused President Buhari of intimidating those perceived to be critics of his administration and also planning to rig the general elections that would begin next month.

Although the Presidency has denied the allegation, the PDP spokesman stated that the issues raised by the nation’s former President can be witnessed by the common Nigerian.

According to Ologbondiyan, the country under President Buhari’s watch is being pushed by some cabals in the presidential villa.

“What former President Olusegun Obasanjo said, does it detach from the reality? Is it a lie? Is it not a fact known to you and I? Is it not the truth?

“Are we having the best in the world today? Are we recognised by the international community? Is this the pedestal of our nation when President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office? Were we going through this kind of killings, the hunger, the deprivations?” he asked.

The opposition party chieftain stated that the recent remark made by Obasanjo isn’t as a result of supporting PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Speaking on security, Ologbondiyan faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for not fixing the nation’s challenges.

He regretted that since the inception of the current administration in 2015, the nation is in a war zone following the various terrorist attacks, herdsmen clashes, kidnappings among others.

But reacting to the allegations, the Zonal Youth Leader, North West of APC, Sadiq Fakai, said President Buhari has improved the security situation in the nation since taking over office.

He however stated that the current administration would consolidate on its achievement in fighting Boko Haram if given another mandate by Nigerians at the polls.

“What Nigerians need to understand is that the government of APC led by President Muhammadu Buhari are doing their best.

“If you can see, there are a lot of improvements f rom the directions that the government come when it took power and where we are now. On the issue of Boko Haram and kidnappings, there are a lot of improvements.

“When you see the level of insecurity in the north-east, you will understand that a lot of things are coming back to their normal positions,” he stated.
