Governor of Nasarawa State, Tanko Al-makura, has promised to sustain the home-grown school feeding programme which the Federal Government recently launched in the state.

He gave the assurance on Thursday when he visited his alma mater, Dunama Pilot Primary School in Lafia, the state capital, where he had a meal with the pupils.

The Governor believes the initiative will increase school enrollments, hence the promise to sustain it.

“I want to assure the Federal Government that the social investment programmes especially the school feeding programme will be fully supported by Nasarawa State,” he said.

Also speaking on the benefits of the programme, the Headmaster of the school, Yusuf Maina, noted that barely two weeks since the introduction of the programme, some students who had dropped out in the previous session, returned to school.

“Those dropped out of the school are back to school. It gives a lot of encouragement. It gives room for pupils to come to school as early as 7:00/7:30 am unlike before that they come to school at will,” he told Channels Television.
