The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on Nigerians to take their destiny in their hands and ensure that the coming elections are free, fair and credible.

In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, the PDP said it now relied on the resilient spirit of Nigerians to ensure credible polls and would lead in the fronts in the pursuit of their wishes and aspirations.

Part of the statement reads, “The PDP acknowledges the fact that for Nigerians, this election is not about politics but about building our nation; it is not between the PDP and APC but between Nigerian citizens and President Buhari, whose
incompetent, vengeful, violent-prone, divisive and inherently corrupt administration has brought so much poverty, anguish and pain to our dear country.”

It said the PDP had fully mobilized over 40 million of its members and directed them to stand guard with Nigerians in all the polling centres across the country to resist any rigging plans of the APC.

“Our members are hereby directed to get ready to arrive at their polling centres very early, ready to vote and to use every legitimate means to protect themselves from any aggression, resist all rigging plans, all through the way, to the very end,” it said.

The PDP alleged that illegal polling centres have been set up as part of the rigging plans but warned that Nigerians would frustrate such plans and “effectively monitor all the ballots, have all the real results from all the polling centres real time, up to the national collation.”

It added, “Our members, supporters and indeed all Nigerians are, therefore, directed to arrive their polling centres with their lunch packs, mats, water bottles, mobile phones, phone power banks and other necessary items for a long stay at the polling centres. All our supporters should vote and remain at the polling centres to monitor the process until the declaration of results.”
