President Donald Trump said Friday that trade negotiations with China were going “extremely well” but then seemed uncertain about the final outcome.
“It is going extremely well. Who knows what that means because it only matters if we get it done,” Trump said at the White House.
A high-level delegation completed two days of talks in Beijing on Friday as they try to avert a sharp rise in tariffs on $200 billion in Chinese goods after March 1.
Trump did not say whether he would extend that deadline.
“The tariffs are hurting China very badly. They don’t want them and frankly, if we can make the deal it would be my honour to remove them.”
