No Diaspora Voting For IDPs In 2019, Says INEC

 

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) have assured Nigerians of the safety of electoral materials which was retrieved following the postponement of the elections.

This was stated during a meeting on Tuesday with stakeholders in Niger State.

The CBN Branch Controller, Mas’ud Tulu, gave the assurance adding “that materials which were initially distributed have been retrieved and are currently stored in a much-secured place, kept away from the reach of people including staff of the bank”.

The Resident Electoral Commission Prof. Samuel Egwu, apologised for the postponement of the elections, describing it as a blessing in disguise in view of the chaos and confusion that would have been generated as a result of the problem of logistics encountered.

On the part of the police, the representative of the Commissioner ACP Babakura Mohammed said they would act on the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari to deal ruthlessly with anyone caught trying to disrupt the peaceful conduct of the election.

While urging players in the election to play by the rules of the game, the police representative however assured of their impartiality and neutrality during the elections, as well as provide adequate security for the citizens who will be exercising their constitutional rights.

In attendance at the meeting were representatives of political parties and the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Customs Service, Immigration, Road Safety, Fire Service, among others.
