The photographer attached to the Bayelsa State Government House, Reginald Dei, who was reported to have been shot dead on Saturday, is alive.

The medical director of a private hospital where the victim is receiving treatment, Dr Young Dede, confirmed this to Channels Television on Sunday in Yenagoa, the state capital.

He, however, said the victim was in a critical condition, having lost a lot of blood before he was rushed to the hospital.

He was brought in yesterday (Saturday) evening and presented with a history of a gunshot to his abdomen,” the medical director revealed.

When he was brought, he was very pale. He had lost a lot of blood and apparently some native treatment had been attempted, some leaves around his face and mouth.”

The confirmation by the medical practitioner followed reports that Dei was killed by armed men as a result of electoral violence in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state.

The state government had issued a statement, claiming that Dei and a ward chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were shot dead by security operatives.

Both men, according to the statement, were reportedly shot in their houses while waiting for the counting of votes to commence in their ward.
