Elections: EU Observers To Present Initial Assessment On Monday

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) says it will present the initial assessment of the governorship and state house of assembly elections on Monday.

A statement on Thursday revealed that the chief observer of the mission, Maria Arena, would make the presentation at a press conference in Abuja.

The mission added that it would give its assessment of the collation of results process for the presidential and National Assembly elections on the same day.

A core team of 11 election experts had arrived in the country on January 5, while 40 long-term observers were deployed across the nation two weeks later.

The European Union had deployed an Election Observation Mission for the 2019 general elections following an invitation from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

It noted that it has observed all elections in the country since the return to democracy in 1999.

The EU explained that the EOM’s mandate was to observe all aspects of the electoral process and assess the extent to which the elections comply with international and regional commitments for elections, as well as with national legislation.
