Speaker of the House Of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has said that the manner in which the elections were conducted in most parts of the country, is an affirmation that the nation is still stuck in the dark ages.

Dogara spoke in reaction to the news of the death of Mr. Temitope Olatoye, a colleague who was shot to death in Oyo state.

The Speaker noted that the do or die nature of Nigerian polity is primitive and uncivilized.

He said, “Nigeria is still stuck in the dark, primitive and uncivilized age where elections are seen as war and a do-or-die affair. The killers of Hon Sugar and all those who lost their lives in election-related violence must be brought to book”.

Dogara, in a series of tweets also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up a commission to look into killing and bring the perpetrators to justice.

The lawmaker said the news of Temitope’s death came to him as a shock. He condemned the killing, stating that it was barbaric.

Dogara defined the deceased as a gentleman who was committed and patriotic. He noted that elections are no wars and as such must be conducted in a very civil manner.
