The All Progressives Congress has said that the decision to unanimously accept Ahmed Lawan as the next Senate President is based on wide consultations with the President and other leaders of the party.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Lanre Issa-Onilu, intimated reporters on Wednesday in Abuja about the development.

According to Onilu, the decision was made after several considerations were made, bearing in mind that there were other senators interested in the position.

He also boasted that the APC has ranking Senators from all zones of the country eminently qualified to contest the position, but only one of them can be Senate President.

Onilu pointed out the fact that the party would not allow what happened in 2015 to repeat itself, adding that what the leadership of the 8th Senate did was treachery and not a democracy.

He reiterated that the APC is not ready to share power in the National Assembly with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) based on the fact that it has a clear majority and does not need the PDP to run a successful government, including the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
