The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a Certificate of Return to Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, his deputy Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and 40 members of the state House of Assembly.

Ganduje received his certificate at the INEC headquarters in Kano, two weeks after being declared the winner of the keenly contested poll.

He emerged governor-elect after polling 1,033,695 votes to defeat his closest rival, Abba Kabir Yusuf of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who secured 1,024,713 votes.

While receiving his Certificate of Return, Ganduje assured that his government will continue to provide the dividend of democracy to the good people of the state.

“Political campaigns and elections are over, and the people of Kano state have spoken.

“Our job now is to speak about the future of our great state, Kano state, the centre of commerce.

Our future does not lie on any of the things that we currently fight about, our future cannot be built with handout or dependency, our future lies in the minds of our people.

“Our developmental aspirations must be built on sustainability and self-sufficiency.

“I strongly believe that a sustainable future for Kano is possible.

“In order to access that future, we must develop the minds of our people”

He commended the electoral body for conducting what he described as a free, fair and credible election, the governor stated that his intention is to take the state to the next level in the coming years.

In his response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Professor Riskuwa Shehu said the certificate is to authenticate the governor’s victory at the polls.

According to him, INEC’s issuance of the document is to “formally satisfy Mr Ganduje as the duly elected governor of Kano State after scoring the highest votes as against his opponent Mr Abba Kabir of the PDP.”
