Borno Attack: SEMA Says Poor Healthcare Worsened Death Toll

The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has decried the state of healthcare facilities, noting that it worsened the death toll following a suicide bombing attack in Mandarari village of Konduga Local Government Area.

Speaking to Channels Television on Monday, the Director Rescue Operations of the agency, Usman Kachalla, noted that the death toll would have been minimized considerably if health institutions were upgraded and operating maximally.

According to him, most of those who lost their lives were evacuated from the scene of the explosion alive.

However, on getting to the General hospital Konduga, some of them bled to death as a result of lack of personnel and facilities.

The State Governor, Babagana Umara, who visited some of the survivors at the hospital, noted that there is a need to strengthen the health systems to complement the contribution of donor agencies.

President Muhammadu Buhari has also condemned the attack.

He urged all security agents to sustain surveillance in major hotspots across the country, consideration what he described as the unconventional methods deployed by terrorists.

The multiple bombings occurred at about 8:00 pm when villagers had gathered a local film house (viewing centre).

Two girls and a male accomplice were said to have sneaked into the village for the mission.

The second girl was, however, unable to detonate her bomb as it was gathered that the explosion from her accomplice killed her before it was her turn.
