The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the Principal Medical Director of Fufore Cottage Hospital in Adamawa state over allegations of practising with forged certificates.

According to the Director of DSS in the state, Mr Bola Olori, preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, Ibrahim Mustapha, did not study medicine but holds the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE) certificate.

He added that Mr Mustapha perfected the illicit act of impersonation as a Doctor in Gombe where he worked as a ward attendant in several clinics, after being aided by a practising Doctor.

“Unfortunately he was aided by a practising doctor, who gave him sample copies of his education and professional certificates which he took to a master forger in Gombe who forged them for him.

“The suspect consequently gained employment into the Adamawa state health management board in October 2015 as a doctor.

“He invariably rose to the post of principal medical officer; prior to his arrest, the suspect has in the last five years, performed hundreds of surgical operations in several hospitals in the state.”

However, Mr Mustapha, in a chat with journalists during his parade by the DSS, agreed that he had conducted several surgeries but denied that some patients died as a result.

“I did many surgeries, more than 500, which were very successful. Equally, I am proud that I know what I’m doing and as far as surgery is concerned, I don’t have any death.”

Meanwhile, Mr Olori urged the public to be wary of such people and alert security agencies for necessary action.

“The service strongly condemns this dastardly act and urges all suspecting member to be wary of these merchants of death who endanger human lives.

“The DSS welcomes credible information from well-meaning Nigerians on the antics of people like this with a view to arresting and containing their nefarious activities.”
