Members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities(SSANU) and their counterparts from the Non-Academic Staff Union(NASU) of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo state have staged a protest at the premises of the university.

The reason for the protest is to compel the Federal Government to implement the memorandum if understanding it signed with the unions on their welfare in 2009.

The chairman of SSANU FUTA chapter, Comrade Dele Durojaiye speaking to Channels Television on behalf of the protesters lamented that the issues resulting in the protest have been on for long with government not paying attention to them.

He condemned the decision of government to release 80 percent of the earned allowances for the university system to ASUU alone, and 20 percent to the non academic staff.

Also, the university unions are demanding for the inclusion of the University Staff School teachers in the federal government payroll as directed by the national industrial court.

He warned that if government refused to attend to their demands, they would not hesitate to embark on industrial action that will paralyse activities in the nation’s universities.
