The army has intercepted and burnt down four vehicles conveying smoked fish allegedly belonging to Boko Haram insurgents on the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi, who confirmed the report, said the insurgents are making money from the sale of fish.

Having discovered that they use proceeds from the sale of fish to sustain their activities, Adeniyi said one of the military’s strategies for fighting the insurgents is to cripple their economy.
The Borno State government and the military had banned fishing activities around the Lake Chad, based on the intelligence that the business has been hijacked by the insurgents.
